Change Of Plan

I said in the last post that I was going to be spending the Chinese New Year in Hainan. Well, things changed. The day after I wrote that post, I got news that my friend’s 92 year old granny had taken ill. So, it wouldn’t have been suitable for me to stay in Hainan. Instead, we went to Sanya the next day and I flew out of Hainan to Kunming yesterday.

I have to say I did enjoy Hainan. The air is clean, the weather is warm (it was 30 degrees in Sanya yesterday) and the beach we went to was really nice. Turns out that this beach is supposed to be for the people staying in the expensive resorts in Yalong Bay, but nobody seems to check! So, the beach and sea were really clean and there were hardly any people there! Excellent stuff!

So, now I am in a hostel in Kunming. I know somebody here, so I will have Chinese new year dinner with them. Another friend will arrive in Kunming on the 19th and we will hit off for Lijiang. Hopefully the weather will be less wet than it was the last time I was here (in 2005)

It’s Chinese New Year tonight, so wish everyone a Happy New Year!
