The Tomato Fries The Egg

I had some left-over eggs from last week (when friends were here), so I thought I’d better not waste them. I thought I would cook the old classic 西红柿炒鸡蛋 (xīhóngshì chǎo jīdàn) or stir fried tomato and egg. I know it’s simple, but I decided to look the recipe up on the web anyways. I found this recipe with a hilarious English translation. They translated the name of the dish as “the tomato fries the egg” cos the Chinese name is made up of tomato (西红柿 – xīhóngshì) stir-fry (炒 - chǎo) and egg (鸡蛋 – jīdàn)! They must have used one of those online translators cos the whole thing barely make and sense at all! Pure Chinglish!
